Fall Exhibition Poster
Wanting a fall theme, I considered other fall motifs like pumpkins, but a falling leaf concept was the only idea that could incorporate the required copy. This poster was designed in my role as a Graphic Department visual work-study intern. The client was demanding and the poster went through many revisions and multiple approval committees. I used orange for the “Exhibition” title font color to make the poster easier to read. I made the type headers red, the sub-headers orange, and kept the tertiary copy black to avoid using yellow due to readability issues. The tree branches are spread out to show movement. When leaves fall off trees during the season they are blown away by wind currents, which makes each leaf go in different directions. The leaves proximity to the title and information makes the poster have a natural feel. The viewer’s eyes move with the falling leaves, guiding them to the information. I layered some leaves behind the background color, making it look darker, and providing an effect with the leaves. It was printed and displayed on campus and at the actual Exhibition. It was used additionally as the exhibition guide cover and in the college’s official social media.
